PIADINA Italian Market Sandwich

Piadina – (pea-ah-Dee-nah)
Noun
A sandwich with a flatbread made from angels.

Ok, not exactly.  A Piadina is a rustic Italian flatbread sandwich, prepared with dough cooked fresh on a griddle and typically filled with a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables.  It is also the name of a restaurant chain that is growing in Orange County.  Piadina now has 3 locations and is scouting new locations hopefully near you.

A sandwich isn’t at the top of my list of go to foods.  But I crave Piadina.  The flatbread is so light and fluffy and the meats are all top quality imported meats.  The owner, Marco Cimmino explained to me the simplicity in all the ingredients.  Everything in his restaurant is fresh and clean.  Clean as in no added ingredients, preservatives or artificial anything.  Everything on his menu is imported; even the flower to make the dough.

I enjoyed the Torino on my last visit.  It is a flatbread sandwich filled with Italian cooked ham, mozzarella, mushrooms, arugula, tomatoes and topped with a truffle sauce.  You would expect this creation to be a lot more than it is with all the top-quality ingredients.  But you would be pleasantly surprised to know that it was only $9.50.
